Barcelona Ironman actually takes place in Calella an hour North of the Catalan capital. This years was the 6th time it was run in the resort.

It is traditionally the biggest Ironman event on their calendar, this year attracting 3800 triathletes from all around the world, both pro and amateur participants.

As with all full Ironman events it incorporates a 2.4 mile swim, on this occasion in the Mediterranean Sea, followed by a 2 lap cycle along the coast towards Barcelona and back totalling 112 miles followed by a 3 lap marathon around Calella and the surrounding towns of Pineda and Santa Susanna.

Although competing in last years half Ironman in Stafford this was his first full event which he completed in a respectable 13 hours and 30 minutes, constituting his 35th Triathlon at various distances in the last 7 years
